So first net session was yesterday and I'm hoping those of us that turned up had that good ache the following morning. was a good turnout and great to get back into the swing of things. New year and hopefully an exciting year of Cricket is ahead for us all and can improve on the prevous season. First action for cricket this year has been completed and the CCC AGM was carried out on the 13th January. All of the appointments from the previous year have been carried over, however to remind you all please see the list below: Club President - Mr Stewart Tate Chairman - Mr David Spinelli Tresurer - Miss Heather Seale Secretary: Miss Heather Seale Saturday Captain - Russell Jones Sunday Captain - Jack Johnson Updates from the AGM and main points for all players to be aware of are as follows. Again we will be competing in the SNCL Premier league on Saturdays and various friendles and club fundraising games will be held on Sundays throughout the season, both pages will be updated shorly with fixture lists. For the club fundraising games there will be 3 main events, the Six-a-Side tournament, Presidents game, and a legends game. All dates agan to be fully confirmed shortly Finally winter nets will be starting as of the 1st February at Leon School. Start time will be 1.00 finishing at 2.00. we will hope to see you all there and it will be £5.00 each for the session. Lets get our pre season started well and look to carry it into the season! After a Saturday of pouring rain and a heavy shower in the morning, the match went ahead as scheduled though the start was a little delayed. Castlethorpe, captained by Jack Johnson, won the toss and elected to bat.
Ben Nightingale and Jack opened and put on thirteen runs before Jamie Crawford had Ben run out by Matt Lewis in the sixth over. Aaron Day joined Jack to put together a partnership of forty with Aaron hitting five 4s before he was caught out by Jon Hill off Garry Singh Maan for 27. Germane Ebanks had a brief time at the crease, bowled out by Alex Sear off the third ball he faced. He made his way back to the pavilion to put his warm jacket back on (he had not removed his woolly hat to bat). Jack’s next partner was Tom Law who made thirty in their partnership of 38 before Garry bowled him. Basher (Stuart Walding) next joined Jack at the crease and supported Jack’s scoring efforts in their partnership of 37. It ended when James Chantry bowled Jack out. Three balls later, Basher was caught by Matt L off James’s bowling. With two new men at the crease, the President’s XI made short work of the remaining batsmen with Matt Townsend and Luke Jeffrey-Hammond each reaching four before being dismissed, leaving Stuart Crow and Ben (asked to bat a second time as Castlethorpe only had nine men to the ten men of the President’s XI) each not out on one run. There had been a half hour rain stoppage but all in all the accumulated total of 141 looked to be a good total to defend. After a short tea where a splendid assortment of cakes were enjoyed, the President’s men, under the captaincy of Russell Jones, took to the field. Ian Easton opened with Alex but had to make his way back to the pavilion having been bowled by Stuart C with his second delivery. This brought Jon Hill to the crease. Jon and Alex put on a second wicket stand of 130 runs including nine 4s and two 6s to bring the President’s XI to the brink of victory. Their partnership ended when Alex was run out by Ben on 49. Jon and Garry saw the President’s men home in the 27th with Jon finishing on 81 not out and with Ollie Hughes, Jamie, Matt L, James, Michael Morgan and Russell not needing to bat. Thanks must go to
Final thanks must go to all the players who participated and to the friends and family members who took time to come along and support the day. It was a pleasant end to the 2017 season. Due to a couple of matches being forfeited in the Premier Division, the match was officiated by a league and home umpire. The visitors lost the toss and Russell determined to bat first.
Castlethorpe lost three wickets pretty early in their runs accumulation but a fourth wicket stand between Mark Currell and Atif Mushtaq of 98 runs in just fifteen overs gave a great platform for the remainder of the team, which they built on. Mark remained at the crease until the 28th over, grinding out 37 runs in support of Atif's 57 runs. Stuart Walding secured 23 not out and Aaron Day achieved 13 not out as Castlethorpe batted out the full 40 overs achieving a total of 186-8 which meant that James Chantry did not need to bat. After tea, provided by Ollie Hughes (thank you), the visitors set about their run chase. They lost two early wickets, one to Atif and one to Russell, before the third wicket pair moved the score along from four to 67 in 15 overs - a steadying partnership. Runs were not easy to come by though, and nor were wickets. In the end Evenley also batted out their 40 overs though they finished 77 runs short of the Castlethorpe total. Though the match did not affect the league position of either club, the match was full and enjoyable, taking us happily in to the end of the league season. (If anyone is wondering, Castlethorpe finished in sixth position out of ten - solidly mid-table - finishing with 193 points.) |
