The August Fantasy League update

1/8/2017

It's that time of the month again, and this month's Fantasy League update sees a change at the toop of the leaderboard. After out-performing the teams around them in the Bugbrooke and Croughton games, The Bear Monsters have leapfrogged Sharron's Second XI into the lead. The Second XI slipped into third place and is in danger of losing that too, as The Mighty Kickers and Sharron's First XI continue to score strongly. One outside bet to join the battle for the lead is Hear Comes The Boom, who have climbed from ninth to fifth in July.

The Woodentops continue their improbably poor form and continue to seem impregnable in the wooden spoon slot, while the MVP standings continue to be led by Atif Mushtaq, who became the first player this year to break the 1000-point barrier.

You will notice some small changes in previous weeks' scores - this is because of a formatting error in the spreadsheet being fixed and slightly altering some scores.

July Fantasy League update

5/7/2017

As June comes to a close (and July also gets going a little bit) it's time for another Fantasy League update:
Picture
As you might imagine, the Six-A-Side was a hugely influential round which saw Sharron's Second XI overtake The Beer Monsters by scoring a massive 739 points - second only to Keeping Up With The Joneses who recorded 802.

The Woodentops have retained their astonishing last place. The wooden spoon is barely even a contest at this point.

However, there is some significant competition for the Most Valuable Player category. Syed Naqvi (798 points) retains second place, but now trails Atif Mushtaq (829 points). Third place is Garry Singh Maan (700 points) who might have been higher had he not had to work on the Six-A-Side day. Martin Jones (392 points) had also made up some ground in his first five Castlethorpe match days, but will now miss the coming weeks with an injury.

A large and overdue Fantasy League update

6/6/2017

It's now June and a Fantasy League update is long overdue. With our Saturday and Sunday teams having played five matches each, and no fewer than thirty players having represented the club so far this season, there have been plenty of opportunities for the field to spread out. The current standings are as follows:
Picture
As you can see, The Beer Monsters have stormed into the lead by scoring consistently in almost every game so far this season. However, if they have a poor game like Sharron's 2nd XI did on the 14th May, there's no reason that any team from second all the way down to Sharron's 1st XI in eighth place couldn't take their place.

At the other end of the table, the wooden spoon looks to already be in the bag for the Woodentops: some suspiciously accurate predictions from Sharron have seen her assemble a potently poor team that has somehow managed to score only 137 points from the last nine matches. The rest of the field will be hoping that some of the Woodentops players have good games (or indeed have games at all) to make the wooden spoon a bit more of a competition.

There are also several new players who we have welcomed both into the club and into the Fantasy League player pool. They are:
  • John Chilton (Batsman - £25,000)
  • Aaron Day (Batsman - £20,000)
  • Ollie Hughes (Wicket-Keeper - £10,000)
  • Luke Jeffrey-Hammond (Batsman - £10,000)
  • Jamie King (All-Rounder - £20,000)
  • Dileep Narayanasa (Bowler - £25,000)
  • Adesh Pal (All-Rounder - £50,000)
  • Gordon Williams (Batsman - £10,000)

Any of these players could be just the bargain you need to invigorate your team: thanks to his century against New Bradwell, Adesh Pal is currently the individual points leader with 439, although Syed Naqvi is close behind on 430.

Almost all teams also have a full quota of transfers still available. As we are now into the third month of the season, that means that each team is allowed to use its first three transfers.

Finally, please do be aware that there is no rule against late entries. You will be docked half the points earned by players before you submit your team (though this cannot be used as a tactic for the wooden spoon competition, for which your full points total will be included), but canny selections may just make it worth your time.
