After being reduced to 27 for three in their first evening game of the season, the Castlethorpe middle-order of Garry Singh Maan (31) and Martin Jones (27) did all they could to rebuild the innings and give the visitors a total to defend. Byfield's off-spinner Sam Brough took four wickets to prevent any acceleration in the death overs, with Castlethorpe finishing on 119 for nine.
Not content with an important bowling spell, Brough also took on the role of pinch-hitter, attacking the bowling of Martin Jones. Although some tight bowling from Atif Mushtaq and particularly Garry Singh Maan was complimented by energetic fielding, the game was put beyond doubt by some savage hitting from Byfield's Rob Lees, who won the game with a huge six.
Despite being knocked out of this cup competition, Castlethorpe's midweek season is not over: there is still the Division One Cup to defend in a couple of weeks.
